Basil Gimlet

Basil Gimlets (from this recipe)

  • Five large basil leaves
  • 1 1/2 ounces gin
  • 3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup

Muddle four basil leaves in the bottom of the cocktail shaker, add the liquid ingredients and ice, shake and pour. Garnish with the last basil leaf.

Verdict: This drink was yummy but surprisingly a little on the sweet side. I admit that  I was a little loosey goosey with my measurements this time around, so maybe I just added too much simple syrup by mistake. But it was still tasty, so I’ll give it another try someday and try to be more exact and see if it makes a difference. I think I might try a few more basil leaves next time as well, I was really hoping for a stronger basil flavor than this produced. Let me know if you try it with better results!
